To determine NPT (National Pipe Taper) size, measure the outside diameter of the male threads or the inside diameter of the female threads, and then use a pipe sizing chart to match the measurement to the corresponding NPT size. Keep in mind that NPT sizes do not directly correspond to the actual diameter in inches; for example, a 1/2-inch NPT pipe has an outside diameter of approximately 0.84 inches.
