NPT (National Pipe Thread) is measured by the nominal pipe size, which refers to the inside diameter (ID) of the pipe, not the outside diameter (OD). However, the actual thread diameter (OD of the threads) is larger than the nominal size. So, NPT size corresponds to the pipe's ID, but the threads are measured on the OD.
