NPT (National Pipe Thread) threads are designed to seal by forming a tight metal-to-metal fit, but using thread tape (such as PTFE tape) is recommended. The tape helps fill any small gaps, making the joint more leak-resistant and easier to disassemble. Therefore, while not strictly required, thread tape is commonly used with NPT threads for a better seal.
